ARCH CLUB LIVE STAGE

Elasidon 6, Gazi, Athens

The Library Residency and Thanasimos are pleased to present a concert and talk organized by Udi Aloni, Alerting us about the ceasefire and the current events in the Middle East, Udi Aloni presents for the first time in Athens the legendary Palestinian hip hop artist Tamer Nafar who single-handed created the Palestinian hip hop scene.

Palestinian hip-hop in Athens: The legendary Tamer Nafar in concert with DJ Gamil followed by a talk with his Jewish activist friend writer and filmmaker Udi Aloni.

Tamer Nafar is a Palestinian rapper, actor, writer and activist, the leader and a founder of dam, the first and most prominent Palestinian hip-hop group.

Udi Aloni is a filmmaker, writer, activist and artist whose work focuses on the interrelations between art, politics and activism in Israeli-Palestinian history and German-Jewish philosophy.

Udi and Tamer are devoted friends and comrades and through their art and activism they are fighting for a positive future for the unfortunate "site" that people call Palestine and Israel, and that even in the 21st century still faces a tragic fate. In this State of Emergency, the artists call for immediate and permanent ceasefire in Gaza and for the end of the ongoing Nakba since 1948. The artists would like to share with the Greek audience their anticipation for a better future that can only be achieved with the support of the international community. Inspired by Edward Said, and in the midst of the current atrocity, they call for action by asking, like Said, whether the kind of "deeply undetermined history" of Israel/Palestine "could ever become the not-so-precarious foundation in the land of Jews and Palestinians of a bi-national space in which Israel and Palestine are parts, rather than antagonists, of each other's history and underlying reality." The artists are reconsidering Said's statement by attempting to establish a bi-language that will allow both Palestinian and Jewish communities to co-resist and co-exist.

The event is supported by the Library Residency, Thanasimos, and ON ETERON.
